NATO official starts visit to Moldova

CHISINAU. Aug 8 (Interfax-AVN) -- Lieutenant General Nikolaos Katagas, Commander of NATO's Joint Command South Central Europe (COMJCSC), has arrived in Chisinau for a three-day visit, a source in the Moldovan Defense Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.

"The meeting between the NATO official and Moldovan Armed Forces Chief-of-Staff Ion Koropchan addressed prospects of cooperation expansion in the framework of the Partnership for Peace program and training of Moldovan peacekeeping contingents in the program's framework," the source said.

The parties informed each other on the progress in the military reform that is underway in both Moldova and COMJCSC, the source stressed.

While staying in Moldova, Katagas will visit the National Army training center where he will be briefed of the program and methods of personnel training for the 22nd peacekeeping battalion.
