Suspected terrorist detained in Dagestan

MAKHACHKALA. Aug 8 (Interfax-AVN) - Dagestani interior officers have detained Sainudin Aliyev, 29, on suspicion of involvement in a number of terrorist acts.

"Sainuid Aliyev is suspected of participation in a series of attacks and acts of terror in Chechnya, Dagestan, and also Kaspyisk on May 9, 2002," Dagestani Interior Ministry spokesman Abdul Musayev told Interfax on Friday.

Musayev would not give the details of Aliyev's detention, only saying that he was held as part of an inquiry into the criminal case concerning an explosion at the interior department in Khasavyurt on July 17. The blast killed four and injured 34 people.

"Aliyev was arrested in his native village of Osmanyurt in the Khasavyurt district, where, according to police, he resided after perpetrating the acts of terror," said Musayev.
