TBILISI/TSKHINVALI. Aug 14 (Interfax-AVN) - The South Ossetian parliament has told Interfax that Eduard Kokoity, president of the unrecognized republic of South Ossetia, has dissolved the republic's government by signing a decree to this effect.
Kokoity made this statement in parliament, telling the deputies that this collective decision stemmed from the need to reorganize the executive structures.
The parliament backed the government's resignation.
Pending a new government, executive functions will be vested in the South Ossetian president.
In July, Kokoity sacked the law enforcement, defense and security ministers.
South Ossetia, located in northern Georgia, proclaimed its sovereignty in the early 1990s, sparking a military conflict with Georgia. South Ossetia's sovereignty has never been recognized either by Georgia or by the international community. Measures are being taken to normalize relations between Tbilisi and Tskhinvali.
