Command post exercise starts in Russian Airborne Force

MOSCOW. Aug 19 (Interfax-AVN) - A strategic command post exercise (CPX) in managing the Airborne Forces started on Tuesday under the supervision of Airborne Force acting commander Lieutenant General Nikolai Staskov, a competent source in the Defense Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency.

"The main goal of the five-day strategic CPX is to update practical skills of Airborne Force leaders in managing troops and to practice interaction with the General Staff of the Armed Forces and other control bodies of ground troops groups in accomplishment of assigned missions," the source said.

The CPX involves operations groups of the 106th and 98th airborne divisions headquartered in Tula and Ivanovo respectively, as well as the headquarters of the military transport aviation and operations teams from several military districts.

"The strategic command post exercise is taking place in accordance with the training plan for the Armed Forces control bodies. Participants in the CPX will practice notification on combat and mobilization readiness of several airborne units in an emergency period. No tactical exercises with airdrops are planned to take place in the framework of the CPX," the source said.
