Russian defense minister arrives in Kamchatka to observe exercises

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY. Aug 26 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov arrived in Petropavlovsk- Kamchatski on Tuesday to observe military exercises being conducted there.

"Tomorrow, the active stage of the exercises in Kamchatka will continue under Navy command," he told reporters at the airport.

He said a number of maneuvers will be conducted, including the launching of cruise missiles from the sea, air and coast.

Ivanov is on a working tour of the Far East where he is following large-scale military exercises.
