VLADIVOSTOK. Aug 29 (Interfax-AVN) - The Vostok 2003 exercise of the Russian Pacific Fleet that has ended in the Far Eastern federal district will give a new impetus to activity of state bodies in the sphere of national interests protection, Navy Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Kuroyedov said on Friday.
"Having been the head of the command post exercise, I have a firm belief that its results will give a new impetus to lawmaking activity and activity of federal bodies, regional authorities, ministries and departments in maintaining security and protecting this country's national interests," Kuroyedov said at the fleet headquarters while summing up results of the exercise.
The 10-day training had two main peculiarities, the commander said. First, all elements of the training related to combating terrorism, poaching and smuggling as well as to sea rescue and maintaining industrial activity were planned and carried out against the background of a peacetime special operation. Second, the exercise had an enormous scale covering four Russian regions, and the administration of the presidential envoy to the Far Eastern federal district and regional and territorial administrations were involved in it.
The Navy commander-in-chief made a detailed evaluation of actions of participants in the exercise at each of its stages. In general, the actions were distinguished by harmonization, which made it possible to attain assigned goals, he said.
