Conference on planning NATO-sponsored exercise opens in Berlin

KYIV. Sept 3 (Interfax-AVN) - An international conference on working out the concept of the upcoming NATO-sponsored Combined Endeavor 2004 exercise opened in Berlin on Wednesday, the press service of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency.

"The conference involves representatives of 19 NATO nations and 27 member nations of the Partnership for Peace program," a press service official said.

The Ukrainian delegation to the conference is led by Kostiantyn Shipov, head of the R&D section in the Ukrainian Armed Forces communication and computerization center.

According to the official, participants in the conference will discuss compatibility of equipment in troops of various nations that are conducting multinational exercises or peacekeeping operations.

The conference will end on Friday. Combined Endeavor 2004 is expected to take place in Germany in May.
