Transition to market relations in gas sphere not to affect Russian-Belarussian military cooperation

MOSCOW. Sept 17 (Interfax-AVN) - Transition to market relations in the gas supplies sphere will not have any effect on Russian-Belarussian relations in the framework of the Collective Security Treaty, Secretary General of the Collective Security Council Nikolai Bordyuzha said on Wednesday.

"I believe that accords on the issues related to transition to market relations in the gas supplies sphere will in no way affect Russian-Belarussian relations in the framework of the Collective Security Treaty. Both nations are loyal to their commitments of allies, they are earnest supporters and builders of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, and they have the longing to strengthen collective security," Bordyuzha told Interfax-Military News Agency.

Military-technical cooperation between Russia and Belarus is regulated by two agreements - on a bilateral and a multilateral basis, he said.

"In the first case, military-technical cooperation is taking place on an intergovernmental level. As to cooperation in the framework of the3 Collective Security Treaty Organization, it is based on the principles of equal and preferential approach for all member nations of the organization. We believe that progress in rapprochement of our nations objectively optimizes settlement of military-technical cooperation issues in the Collective Security Treaty Organization framework as well," Bordyuzha said.
