Georgia ready to cooperate with South Ossetia's new prime minister

TBILISI. Sept 17 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgia has announced its readiness to cooperate with Igor Sanakoyev, who was approved as the new prime minister of the self-proclaimed republic of South Ossetia by the republic's parliament on Wednesday.

"Tbilisi is ready to continue the dialog with Tskhinvali on peaceful settlement" of the Georgian-Ossetian armed conflict of 1989-1992, Georgian Minister without Portfolio Malkhaz Kakabadze told Interfax-Military News Agency.

"We are ready for a face-to-face meeting with Igor Sanakoyev to determine spheres of cooperation in specific issues," he said.

Sanakoyev, a 56-year-old businessman, worked in Vladikavkaz, capital of Russia's internal republic of North Ossetia before his current appointment. He was approved as prime minister of South Ossetia by 24 votes in favor (the South Ossetian parliament has 26 seats).

Sanakoyev will start setting up a new government in the next few days.

South Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity fired the government in early August and acted as prime minister after that.
