MOSCOW. Sept 17 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian can supply armament and military hardware from the Defense Ministry's storehouses to Namibia, a competent source in the ministry told Interfax- Military News Agency on Wednesday.
"Armament and military hardware supplies from the Defense Ministry's storehouses is the most promising sphere of Russia's military technical cooperation with Namibia and it has become considerably more active lately," the source said.
Mutual exchange of official military delegations, sending specialists for assistance in mastering, operating, servicing, repairing and upgrading Russian-made armaments and military hardware that have earlier been supplied to Namibia, and training of Namibian servicemen in higher educational establishments of the Russian Defense Ministry are among other promising spheres of cooperation with Namibia, the source noted.
"Russian-Namibian military relations have become stronger lately," he said.
The source exemplified by mentioning a visit of the Namibian delegation led by Deputy Defense Minister Victor Simulia that was made in Moscow in August this year, as well as the meeting of Russian and Namibian parliamentary defense committee chairmen that was held in the State Duma lower house of Russian parliament on Wednesday.
Russia and Namibia signed the first intergovernmental agreement on military and military-technical cooperation in May 1996. Two months later, the defense ministries of the two countries signed a military cooperation agreement.
Over the next years, Russia supplied various kinds of armament and military hardware to Namibia. Among them are Grad multiple launch rocket systems, artillery systems, mortars of various caliber, and ammunition for them.
