Bellona wants data on lost Soviet nuclear subs declassified

ST.PETERSBURG. Sept 19 (Interfax-Northwest) - The Bellona international environmental organization has called for the declassification of information on sunken Soviet nuclear submarines.

Alexei Pavlov from the Environmental Human Rights Center, Bellona's St. Petersburg office, has sent a request to the Russian Supreme Court. He is seeking the court's assessment of the activities of Moscow courts which he has accused of "refusing to look into the center's protest against the Navy commander-in- chief's refusal to disclose information on disasters aboard nuclear submarines."

"Unfortunately, the Presnya district court and the Moscow City Court have not yet decided to launch criminal proceedings," Pavlov said.

"We hope that the Russian Supreme Court will put an end to this absurd situation," he added.
