MOSCOW. Sept 22 (Interfax-AVN) - A Russian Cosmos-3 rocket will carry a Turkish satellite into orbit from the Plesetsk spaceport on Friday, the press department of the Turkish embassy in Russia told Interfax.
"This will be the first space voyage of a Turkish multifunctional low-orbiting satellite, and it is a landmark event signifying broader space cooperation between Russia and Turkey," the embassy representative said.
The satellite was initially planned to be launched on Tuesday.
"The Information Technologies and Electronics Research Institute of the Turkish Scientific and Technical Research Council designed the BILSAT satellite. It will help solve problems related to urban development, agriculture, forestry, ecology, estimating the damage caused by natural disasters and to other areas," the source said.
He said the satellite cost about USD14m and has a service life of 15 years.
