MOSCOW. Sept 22 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia will exhibit about 300 pieces of armament and hardware for the Air Force, Navy and Land Forces, as well as a broad range of conversion products, at the 7th Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA 2003) that will take place in Malaysia from September 30 to October 5.
"Thirty enterprises and organizations of the Russian defense industry will exhibit their products at LIMA 2003 under the auspices of the Rosoboronexport federal state-owned enterprise. Our section comprises over 300 pieces of aviation and naval hardware and armaments, as well as over 200 civilian and dual- purpose products that are represented by mock-ups, posters and ads," Rosoboronexport Deputy Director General Viktor Komardin told reporters on Monday.
In response to a question from Interfax-Military News Agency, Komardin said that the Russian section will lay the stress on aircraft.
"In particular, participants in the show will be able to familiarize themselves with nearly all export-oriented SU planes of Generations 4 and 4+, including the SU-27SK Flanker fighter, SU-30MK Flanker and SU-35 Flanker multifunctional fighters, SU-32 and SU-22M4 Fitter fighter-bombers, and SU-33 Flanker deck plane. Demonstration flights will involve the SU-30MK multifunctional fighter whose specifications meet requirements for Generation 4+ aircraft. This variety of the famous export-oriented series of SU fighters was the baseline variety of the SU-30MKM fighter that is being designed for the Malaysian Air Force," Komardin said.
Export-oriented varieties of MI helicopters will have an important place in the Russian section, he went on. Among them are the MI-171Sh Hip military transport helicopter, MI-28HE Havoc combat helicopter, MI-35 Hind and MI-35PM Hind transport and combat helicopters, and MI-26 Halo heavy military transport helicopter. The latter is intended for supporting the maneuver of troops with military hardware and transporting cargo with a total weight of up to 20 tonnes. It has a huge experience in service in various countries of the world and Southeastern Asia, including in South Korea, Thailand, Cambodia, Italy, Mexico, Peru, and Somalia.
LIMA 2003 is one of the largest arms shows in the Asia- Pacific region. It is held once in two years under the auspices of the Malaysian Defense Ministry.
