MOSCOW. Sept 22 (Interfax-AVN) - The Rosoboronexport state- owned arms trader is expecting an increase in the supplies of the SU-30MK Flanker multifunctional fighter to Southeastern Asia, Rosoboronexport Deputy Director General Viktor Komardin said on Monday.
"Rosoboronexport is working on the promotion of SU-30MK family fighters in Southeastern Asian nations and on other markets," Komardin told reporters.
In response to a question from Interfax-Military News Agency, he said that work is underway on concluding a new contract with Indonesia.
"We may be able to do something with Indonesia. The first stage that envisages the supply of four SU-30 planes may have a continuation," Komardin said.
According to him, if there are four planes in a country, there may easily be 12 or even 16 planes in the future.
A series of flexible payment schemes has been worked out for other contracts signed by Russia and Malaysia, Komardin went on.
"We are introducing flexible financial schemes that provide for paying in hard currency and in return supplies," he said.
Komardin noted that Malaysia will pay for the supplies of 18 SU-30MKM multifunctional fighters in hard currency only, not in return supplies of some Malaysian products, as some media reports claimed. At the same time, Russia will procure various goods from Malaysia worth 30 percent of the contract value.
"We will not lose anything from it. On the contrary, we will gain something," he said.
Russia and Indonesia signed a contract for the supplies of four multifunctional fighters (two SU-27SK and two SU-30KI) and two MI-35 helicopters (an export-oriented variety of the MI-24 Hind) to Jakarta in April.
The contract was concluded in line with the accords reached during Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri's earlier visit to Moscow. According to Russian experts, the value of the contract amounts to about USD130m, though Western media evaluated the contract at USD190m.
