Russian intelligence service declines comment on arrest of suspected spies in Belgrade

MOSCOW. Sept 22 ((Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service has refrained from commenting on reports about the arrest of three military men in Belgrade on charges of spying for Russia.

"Under the practice accepted by all of the world's special services, we do not comment on whether or not this or that person was involved in intelligence operations," Russian Foreign Intelligence Service spokesman Boris Labusov told Interfax on Monday.

According to reports from Belgrade, two colonels and a lieutenant colonel who worked with the army intelligence services of Serbia and Montenegro have been arrested in Belgrade. Their names were not disclosed.

The Belgrade press claimed that all three were suspected of spying, but were arrested after one of them received a fee of EUR16,000.
