Russian govt authorizes launch of Japanese satellite from Plesetsk

MOSCOW. Sept 23 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian government has accepted the Russian Aviation and Space Agency's proposal to launch a Japanese satellite from the Plesetsk cosmodrome by a Rokot carrier rocket, the government information department reported.

Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov signed an order to this effect on Tuesday, the report reads.

The Aviation and Space Agency's proposal was cleared with the Defense Ministry and other interested federal executive bodies. It provides for signing an agreement with Japan under which the Defense Ministry will put the Japanse Service-1 research satellite into circumterrestrial orbit.

Regular order of granting foreign experts the permission to access the Defense Ministry's facilities at Plesetsk which perform the work directly related to satellite launches will be maintained in this case, the report reads.

The Russian State Customs Committee is instructed to ensure customs clearance and customs control of the Japanese satellite and auxiliary equipment that are temporarily imported in Russia's customs territory. The cargo will be fully exempted from customs fees, taxes, and payments for customs clearance.
