KYIV. Sept 23 (Interfax-AVN) - The 62nd detached mechanized brigade of the Ukrainian Unified Quick-Response Forces launched a command post exercise (CPEX) at a training ground near Zhytomyr on Tuesday, the press service of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency.
"Major General Anatoliy Pushnyakov, commander of the 8th army corps, is supervising the CPEX," a press service official said.
According to him, the brigade's 1st mechanized battalion will perform a tactical exercise with live firing at the 240th training ground near Zhytomyr in the CPEX framework.
The CPEX is aimed at practicing neutralization of a military conflict at an initial stage. The maneuvers will have several stages, during which units will be set on various degrees of combat readiness, prepared for accomplishing inherent missions and for joint actions with other units of the Unified Quick- Response Forces.
A total of 750 servicemen, 140 pieces of hardware and four helicopters will be involved in the war games.
The live firing stage involving tanks and IFVs is scheduled for Friday.
