MOSCOW. Sept 24 (Interfax-AVN) - Sapper units of military commandant's offices of the Russian Interior Ministry Force have cleared from mines over 700 hectares of cropland in Chechnya this year, Colonel General Nikolai Rogozhkin, Interior Ministry Force chief-of-staff, said on Wednesday.
"Sappers of Chechen military commandant's offices cleared from mines 50 crop fields with a total area of over 735 hectares, 133 various economic facilities and 106 individual residential houses in 2003," Rogozhkin told a news conference.
Military commandant's offices are currently focusing on coordinating the fight against terrorism and banditry in administrative districts with territorial executive bodies, the general said.
"Military commandant's offices are doing a great work related to coordinating the measures that executive bodies are taking to restore the Chechen Republic's social and economic sphere. The military commandant's offices in Chechnya have helped restore over 900 facilities, including 667 residential houses, 19 industrial enterprises, eight healthcare facilities, 11 educational establishments, eight social and cultural sphere facilities, eight bridges, 19.5km of roads, and about 41km of power transmission lines," Rogozhkin noted.
