New defense minister appointed in South Ossetia

TSKHINVALI. Sept 25 (Interfax-AVN) - Colonel Zelim Muldarov has been appointed defense minister of the self-proclaimed Republic of South Ossetia, a source in the South Ossetian government told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday.

"Colonel Zelim Muldarov has been appointed the republic's defense minister by a decree of South Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity. Muldarov will command structures of the Emergencies Ministry simultaneously," the source said.

The new 40-year-old minister is a native of South Ossetia, he is a career military and until recently served in Russia's 58th army.

Muldarov became the first minister in the new South Ossetian government. Kokoity sacked the prevision government in August. The parliament approved Igor Sanakoyev as the new prime minister last week. He is supposed to form the new government before the end of the month.
