Russia's major arms trader fulfills contract for foreign satellite launches

MOSCOW. Sept 29 (Interfax-AVN) - The Rosoboronexport state- owned arms trader has fulfilled the contract for orbiting four foreign research satellites, the company's press service reported on Monday.

"The Rosoboronexport federal state-owned enterprise signed the contract for satellite launches with Britain's Surrey Satellite Technology, Ltd. (SSTL) and Germany's COSMOS International Satellitenstart GmbH (COSMOS International)," the report reads. The satellites were launched from the Plesetsk cosmodrome by a Cosmos carrier rocket on September 27.

According to the press service, Turkey's BILSAT-1, Nigeria's NIGERIASAT-1 and Britain's UK-DMC were designed and manufactured by SSTL with the help of Turkish and Nigerian experts. The spacecraft will join the Disaster Monitoring Constellation (DMC), an international satellite grouping that monitors natural and man- made disasters.

South Korea's KAISTSAT-4 was designed by the Satellite Research Center (SatReC) and launched under a contract with the German company. It is intended for Earth's remote probing.

The Cosmos rocket was made by the Polyot production enterprise located in Russia's Omsk.
