ST.PETERSBURG. Oct 2 (Interfax-AVN) - The number of detained violators is growing on the border section controlled by the Russian Federal Security Service's Northwestern regional border guard directorate, a spokesman for the directorate headquarters said on Thursday.
"Border guards of the Northwestern regional border guard directorate detained over 250 violators in September," the spokesman told Interfax-Military News Agency.
He recalled that the directorate's personnel detained 137 violators in August, 27 in July and 59 in June.
According to the headquarters, 36 border violators and 232 trespassers of the border zone were detained on the border section controlled by the department in September.
"Alien documents were produced at checkpoints in two cases, 933 people had invalid documents, and 530 of them were not allowed to cross the border. Fines for administrative violations totaling RUB57,100 (USD1,870) were imposed on 181 detainees," the spokesman said.
He added that smuggled goods worth a total of RUB1.3m (USD42,600) were seized.
According to the spokesman, a green corridor for European cargo will soon be opened at the Torfyanovka customs post on the Russian-Finnish border.
"The border crossing procedure of trucks will be simplified and speed up thanks to advance electronic data exchange between customs bodies of the project participants," he said.
