STAVROPOL, Southern Russia. Oct 6 (Interfax-AVN) - Over 95 percent of border guards deployed in Chechnya came to polling stations to elect the Chechen president, the press service of the North Caucasus Regional Border Guard Directorate of the Federal Security Service told Interfax-Military News Agency Monday.
"According to primary reports, the average percentage of those who came to the election is about 96 percent. The families of the border guards, permanently residing in the (internal - Interfax-AVN) republic, have voted together with servicemen. All in all there were about 4,000 voters," the press service said.
No violations of the election legislation have been detected in the run of voting. At Polling Station 331 (the village of Borzoi) the voting was supervised by two representatives of Akhmad Kadyrov, one of seven candidates for Chechen presidency.
"Today the voting papers from five closed polling stations of the Argun border guard detachment and Borzoi-based special force will be delivered to the territorial election commissions of the Shatoi and Itum-Kale districts of the republic," the press service added.
The press service emphasized that no violations or organizational failures have been detected despite difficulties related to the delivery of voting papers to restricted areas where about 10 forces organic to the Argun border guards detachment are based.
The election commissions thanked military pilots for timely delivery of ballot boxes from the stations despite terrain and guerrilla fire danger.
The election procedure in the units was supervised by a special team of officers, headed by chief of the directorate Lieutenant General Nikolai Lisinsky.
