KYIV. Oct 9 (Interfax-AVN) - The Ukrainian state-owned arms trading company, Ukrspetsexport, has boosted its export/import volume to nearly USD2bn, chief of the company's press service Oleksandr Lyashko said on Thursday.
"The company's trade and mediation volume in the sphere of arms and services export and import is approaching USD2bn," Lyashko told Interfax-Military News Agency.
According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Ukraine has been on the list of the world's six leading nations in the sphere of military- and special- purpose products and services supplies for the past six years.
Ukrspetsexport has three regional departments and five affiliates, namely Ukroboronservis, Ukrinmash, Progress, Spetstekhnoexport, and Promoboronexport, Lyashko said. It maintains offices in many foreign countries, including Russia, China, India, Algeria, Pakistan and Myanmar.
The Ukrspetsexport company was set up on October 9, 1996. It has become a leader of the arms market over the seven years of its existence. The company maintains military-technical cooperation with nearly 50 countries, while the total number of countries that have cooperated with Ukrspetsexport is reaching 150.
