KHANKALA. Oct 10 (Interfax-AVN) - Several members of a rebel group involved in the murder of Khumid Visaitov, chairman of the elders council of the village of Bugaroi in the Itum-Kale district, have been killed, a source with Chechnya's security agencies told Interfax on Friday.
"From 12 to 14 of the rebels who attacked the village and savagely killed Visaitov are believed to have been killed as a result of a special operation," the source said.
Visaitov, 82, a widely respected figure in Chechnya, was killed in the early hours of Thursday, the regional headquarters for the counter- terrorist operation in the North Caucasus told Interfax earlier.
A sign reading "This Will Happen to Every Enemy of the People" was pinned to the man's chest, and the rebels wrote "Enemy of the People" on the wall of his house.
The regional headquarters said that Visaitov was killed in retaliation for the presidential elections in Chechnya.
