GROZNY. Oct 13 (Interfax-AVN) - A terrorist attack on local administration officials was prevented thanks to vigilance of a local resident in the Chechen village of Nozhai-Yurt, a source in the regional headquarters managing the anti-guerrilla operation in the North Caucasus told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.
"A terrorist attack on local administration officials was prevented thanks to vigilance of a Nozhai-Yurt resident. He drew the guard's attention to a bucket abandoned near the administration office," the source said.
Sappers arrived at the scene and determined that the bucket was full of an explosive mixture with metal pieces and fitted with a homemade radio exploder.
The explosive device was blasted on the scene. Law-enforcers are searching for the persons involved in arranging the terrorist attack.
According to the source, federal servicemen and law- enforcers found and destroyed several arms and ammo caches in Chechnya on Sunday.
A federal unit engaged in a combat operation found a cache near the cemetery in the Avtury village in the Shali district. The cache contained five rounds for the RPG-7 anti-tank grenade launcher, two 122-mm artillery shells, 18 hand grenades, four mortar shells, 18 Makarov pistols, three grenade launchers, and 8kg of TNT.
Another cache was destroyed in a forest on the outskirts of the Zonypo village in the Shatoi district. It contained six grenade launchers, about 2,500 cartridges, 11 hand grenades, 6kg of TNT, six VOG-25 grenade launcher rounds, and 20 bullet belts.
Law-enforcers examined about 14,000 vehicles on Sunday. They registered 52 criminal offenses and detected 24 of them hot on the trail. In addition, about 1,000 administrative offenses were registered and 70 people brought to justice.
A policeman died in a dropping fire opened by a wedding escort on the Kavkaz federal highway, a spokesman for the Chechen Interior Ministry told Interfax. Aslanbek Dokuyev, police officer of the Oktyabrsky district in Grozny, got a gunshot wound in the head on the highway section connecting Gudermes and Argun and died in a Gudermes hospital.
Investigators established that the fire was opened while a wedding escort was riding down the highway. A criminal case was opened in connection with the incident. The police are working to determine who opened the fire, whether that person was a member of the escort or was riding in a car that was accidentally passing by.
Another policeman died in Chechnya on Sunday as a result of careless handling of arms.
