MOSCOW. Oct 14 (Interfax-AVN) - The European Aeronautic Defense And Space Company (EADS) has opened a technology department in Moscow, which is part of the EADS corporation research and development center, Gregor von Kursell, head of the EADS international press-service, told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.
"The establishment of a technology department in Moscow meets EADS regional strategy objectives, concerning Russia, and emphasizes the pivotal role EADS assigns to expanding its presence in Russia and developing cooperation with Russian enterprises and organizations in the sphere of fundamental and applied scientific research, technology, and industry," von Kursell said.
According to him, the EADS technology department is designed to promoting cooperation with Russian research and development organizations and design bureaus, as well as act as the major coordinator of all joint research projects, undertaken in cooperation with Russian counterparts, including both institutes, belonging to the Russian Academy of Science, and other Russian organizations.
The technology department will work within the framework of the overall EADS business in Russia on behalf of the EADS corporation's research and development center, as well as other subsidiaries of the consortium.
EADS is the second largest aerospace and defense consortium in the world. In 2002 the EADS annual turnover totaled EUR29.9bn. The total number of EADS employees equals 100,000 people. The consortium operates in excess of 70 affiliate offices in France, Germany, Great Britain, and Spain, and conducts active business in many corners of the compass, including Americas, Asia, and Russia.
