Police officer killed in Chechnya

ROSTOV-ON-DON. Oct 14 (Interfax-South) - A police officer has been killed in Chechnya, the republic's Interior Ministry has told Interfax.

Zhelaudi Mezhiyev, deputy head of the North Caucasus search bureau of the Southern Federal District, was lethally wounded when his car came under fire in Grozny on Monday. The officer died of injuries at a Grozny hospital.

Numerous empty cases and bullets were found at the scene of the incident. The Interior Ministry has already established the make of the attackers' car and its color.

The search for the attackers is in progress.
