MOSCOW. Oct 17 (Interfax-AVN) - The St. Petersburg-based LOMO enterprise, specializing in manufacturing optics for law- enforcement agencies, has increased its output by 48.8% this year, the official Internet site of the Russian Conventional Weapons Agency, incorporating LOMO, says.
"Within three quarters of 2003 LOMO's profits totaled RUB247.4m (USD8,229,522), which is a 48.8% year-on-year increase," the site states.
According to the Russian Conventional Weapons Agency, production of main civil products was as follows in the nine months of 2003: medical products - RUB100m (USD3.33m) (a 84.4% year-on-year increase); surveillance and night vision devices - RUB16.5m (USD 548,860) (80.6%); control equipment - RUB12.1m (USD402,490) (42.5%); photo cameras - RUB19.2m (USD638,670) (67.4%); and spectral devices - RUB5.9m (USD196,260) (36.8%).
According to the agency, LOMO established affiliate and subsidiary companies, boasting a considerable share of its total capital, in the sphere of spectral and control equipment.
"Their task is to carry out new developments, manufacture (with the help of LOMO's production capabilities), and sell goods. At the present time a number of such organizations are quire successful," the report says.
In the military sphere LOMO specializes in producing homing heads for precision-guided munitions (PGM), as well as various optics.
