Police officer dies when detaining rebel emir in Grozny

GROZNY. Oct 20 (Interfax-South) - A police officer died during an attempt to detain a rebel in Grozny on October 18, a source in the interior department of Grozny's Staropromyslovsky district told Interfax.

The police were trying to detain Isa Aliyev, the so-called emir of Grozny's Oktyabrsky district. The rebel opened fire and shot Senior Lieutenant Ruslan Almurzayev. The rebel was also killed in the clash.

The search of the house where the rebel was staying revealed a shoulder-held grenade launcher, a Kalashnikov assault rifle, about one kilogram of explosives, a Kenwood radio set, two diplomas from the Grozny Pedagogical Institute in teaching English and Arabic and a large amount of ammunition.
