St. Petersburg-based bank extends loan for completion of sub construction

ST.PETERSBURG. Nov 10 (Interfax-AVN) - The St. Petersburg affiliate of Alfabank has extended a loan for the construction of the Yuri Dolgoruky nuclear submarine, the affiliate said in a press release circulated on Monday.

The term and value of the loan are not disclosed. The loan will be paid off from allocations for the state defense order in the future.

The Sevmashpredpriyatie production association located in Severodvinsk, the Arkhangelsk region, is in charge of the submarine's construction.

According to the press release, a special team set up by the Russian Shipbuilding Agency and the Defense Ministry will control the spending of the money and compliance with obligations under the loan.

The Yuri Dolgoruky belongs to the fourth generation of nuclear submarines. It is the first in the series of submarines codenamed Borei. The vessel was laid down on November 2, 1996. The project was created by the Rubin central naval equipment design bureau in St. Petersburg under the supervision of designer Sergei Kovalyov. He is also the chief designer of Typhoon-class submarines. Borei-class subs are expected to replace submarines of Typhoon and Delta classes in the future. Their length will amount to 170m, width to 13.5m, full displacement to 24,000 cubic meters, maximal submergence depth to 380m, full underwater speed to 29 knots, and endurance to 100 days. The submarines will have a crew of 107 people.
