Russian army's chief of staff to discuss joint Russian-NATO exercise in Brussels

MOSCOW. Nov 11 (Interfax-AVN) - Army General Anatoly Kvashnin, Russian Armed Forces chief of staff, is to pay a visit to Brussels on Tuesday to participate in the chief-of-staff-level meeting of the Russia-NATO Council, a source in the Russian Defense Ministry's International Military Cooperation Directorate told Interfax-Military News Agency.

"On Wednesday the Brussels-based NATO headquarters is to host another meeting of the Russia-NATO Council at the level of chiefs of staff, which among other senior military officials will also see participation of Army General Anatoly Kvashnin," the source said.

He also said that the agenda of the meeting would include two primary issues, pertaining to military representatives' adhering to the work plan of the Russia-NATO Council, and future joint endeavors in the military sphere in 2004.

"Kvashnin is to address the Council with a speech, which among other things covers a plan for joint tactical exercise, slated for 2004," the source said.

He clarified that specific states to participate in the joint tactical exercise next year would be determined after the future exercise had been discussed at the NATO headquarters.
