Russian Interior Ministry to boost arms procurement 10-15 percent next year

MOSCOW. Nov 11 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Interior Ministry is planning to boost arms and military hardware procurement by 10 to 15 percent in 2004, Colonel General Mikhail Ignatyev, deputy interior minister and chief of the ministry's logistics support, said on Tuesday.

"We are planning to get 10 to 15 percent more new arms and hardware in 2004 than in 2003," Ignatyev said at the Interpolitex 2003 exhibition of special-purpose police and military hardware in Moscow.

Everything that the Russian Interior Ministry "has or would like to have in the future" is featured among the exhibits, he said.

"We cannot say that we get everything we need and as much as we need. But we have an armament program for up to 2010 which is being implemented successfully," the deputy minister noted.
