STAVROPOL. Nov 12 (Interfax-AVN) - Major General Igor Kharkovchuk has got down to duties of the head of the Grozny territorial department of the North Caucasus regional border guard directorate, a source in the directorate told Interfax- Military News Agency on Wednesday.
"Major General Igor Kharkovchuk has been appointed deputy head of the North Caucasus regional border guard directorate and head of the Grozny territorial department. He is in charge of all border guard units stationed in Chechnya and in the neighboring Caucasian republics," the source said.
"The position of deputy head of the North Caucasus regional border guard directorate and head of the Grozny territorial department is new. It was introduced bearing in mind the importance of control over the situation on the Chechen and adjacent straps of the Russian state border," the source stressed.
Kharkovchuk was born in Ukraine in 1951. He graduated from the Border Guard Command College and the Frunze Military Academy. He served at various command posts in several border guard districts and departments. Prior to his current appointment he worked in the Western regional border guard directorate of the Russian Federal Security Service.
