Russian Air Force chief supporting Novosibirsk aircraft plant's development

NOVOSIBIRSK. Nov 27 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Air Force Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Mikhailov attaches high importance to the development of the Novosibirsk aircraft production association (NAPO).

"The association should be provided with funds for working and mounting output," Mikhailov told reporters on Thursday upon his arrival in Novosibirsk.

"My visit's goal is to look at the enterprise's state and take necessary measures to make NAPO work, to preserve all specialists and all jobs," he said.

NAPO was created in 1931. It has manufactured about 29,000 planes of various makes. The enterprise currently produces fighter-bombers of the SU family and AN-38 regional planes.

Colonel Alexander Drobyshevsky, chief of the Air Force press service, told Interfax-AVN that Mikhailov's trip through Siberian enterprises and military units will last until Saturday.

"The commander-in-chief will visit Air Force and Air Defense units stationed in the Siberian military district, hear the command's reports, and check units' readiness for a new training year," Drobyshevsky said.
