Perm aircraft industry group to have state order increased 15 times

PERM. Dec 29 (Interfax-AVN) - Next year's state defense order for the Perm Motor Complex (PMK) will increase 15 times year-on-year to RUB530m (USD18m), Alexander Inozemtsev, Perm Motor Complex CEO, told Interfax-Military News Agency Monday.

"The Perm state defense order for 2004 will amount to RUB530m. With a mere RUB32m (USD1.1m) for the current year, it is an increase by almost two orders of magnitude," he said.

According to Inozemtsev, PMK will be involved in jet, rocket, and helicopter works. The group includes 12 enterprises, in particular Aviadvigatel JSO, Perm Engine Plant, Proton-PM, Reduktor-PM, etc., and has an annual output of about USD300m.

"A high priority for 2004 is replacement of the engines powering the IL-76MD Candid military cargo planes by the higher- thrust new-generation PS-90A-76. This work will involve Aviadvigatel, Permskiye Motory (Perm Motor Plant - Interfax-AVN), and the Voronezh Aircraft Plant," he said.

He emphasized that the PS-90A powering the TU-204s, TU-214s, IL-96s, IL-76MD-90s, and IL-76MFs is the only Russian-made fourth- generation engine meeting all European noise requirements. With this engines the aircraft are not subject to admission restrictions.

"Another priority in 2004 will be the production of transmissions and reduction gears for helicopters at Reduktor-PM. This is a unique domain, the world has very few firms that make such products," Inozemtsev went on.

Reduktor-PM, in particular, produces reduction gears for the MI-26 Halo, MI-28 Havoc, and Ansat light rotorcraft.

The third priority Inozemtsev mentioned was the production of first-stage engines for the Proton heavy carrier rockets (Proton-PM).

"This rocket has a record of over 300 launches. It orbits about 80 percent of federal and 100 percent of commercial spacecraft. The Proton is a universal and the only Russian heavy orbiting means," Inozemtsev said.
