Border guards sweeping Dagestan area, where guerilla group was destroyed Monday

STAVROPOL/MAKHACHKALA. Dec 30 (Interfax-AVN) - Sweeping teams of the North Caucasus Regional Border Guard Directorate headed for the Khirbak pass on Tuesday, where a guerilla group was destroyed the day before.

"According to our information, a guerilla team, comprising over a dozen people, was completely destroyed, but it is possible that several guerillas hid in crevices, thus, it is necessary to sweep the area," Lieutenant Colonel Sergey Livantsov, head of the directorate's press-service, told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.

Livantsov clarified that the guerillas belonged to the unit, detected in Dagestan's Tsunti district on December 15.

"It is too early to say that the guerilla unit is completely destroyed, but most of the guerillas may be said to have been killed, while several of them were apprehended by federal forces," he emphasized.

In his turn Abdul Musayev, head of the Dagestan Interior Ministry Information and Public Relations department, told Interfax-AVN that a number of operations, first and foremost, sweeping operations were underway in the area, where the guerilla unit had been detected, but the operation may be said to have been completed.

"In the next few hours we will receive final information on the results of federal operations against this guerilla unit, and this information will be made public," he said.
