ROSTOV-ON-DON. Dec 30 (Interfax-AVN) - Soldier Maksim Borodin, who ran away from a military unit, deployed outside Rostov-on-Don, taking with him his weapon and ammunition, has been apprehended, Colonel Igor Konashenko, head of the North Caucasus Military District press-service, told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.

"The soldier made no resistance, when arrested. The weapon and ammunition have been returned to the military unit," he said.

Konashenko said that Borodin, who intended to go home to the Volgograd region, had been apprehended in the Rostov region. "He explained that he had deserted the unit for personal reasons," the colonel said.

The soldier left his unit last Sunday, after he had received a letter, saying that his girlfriend was going to marry his friend.

The 19-year old Borodin deserted a military unit of the North Caucasus Military District, deployed in the Aksay district of the Rostov region, taking his weapon and ammunition along. He had an assault rifle and two magazines (60 rounds).
