Soyuz-2 carrier rocket test launches to be conducted at Plesetsk space center in 2004

MOSCOW. Dec 31 (Interfax-AVN) - In 2004 the Plesetsk space center will host flight tests of the Soyuz-2 carrier rocket, Colonel General Anatoly Perminov, Russian Space Forces Commander, told Interfax-Military News Agency on Wednesday.

"In 2003 Plesetsk hosted flight tests of the Rokot carrier rocket, while in 2004 the space center is to embark on flights tests of the Soyuz-2 carrier rocket," Perminov noted in his New Year address to the Russian Space Forces.

According to him, the most challenging task, facing the Space Forces in 2004, consists in constructing the launching site for the Angara carrier rocket in Plesetsk, as well as testing the new system.

The commander said that the Svobodny space center, based in the Amur region, would keep on working at developing the Streal light carrier rocket, with its flight tests slated for 2004.
