More Georgian peacekeepers will go to Iraq

TBILISI. Jan 8 (Interfax-AVN) - A new unit of Georgian peacekeepers, part of a 207-man contingent, will be sent to Iraq in early February, Defense Minister David Tevzadze told journalists on Wednesday.

"The format of the participation of Georgian peacekeepers will be changed this time. No military doctors will be included in the Georgian unit. Special forces personnel will be sent to Iraq," Tevzadze said.

"We are catering to the needs of the international coalition in Iraq," he said.

Tevzadze plans to visit Iraq in the near future. He did not specify the dates for his trip.

Up to 70 Georgian peacekeepers, including doctors and sappers, are now serving in Iraq.
