Chechya establishes own Interior Ministry

GROZNY. Jan 8 (Interfax-South) - The building of the Chechen Interior Ministry has been completed, the ministry's press secretary Ruslan Atsayev told Interfax on Thursday.

"The number of Chechen Interior Ministry personnel had been brought into line with the officially endorsed composition by the end of 2003," Atsayev said.

At the moment, over 13,000 people serve in the ministry, including troops guarding the republic's oil facilities, the patrol service, and the security guard service, he said.

"The ministry's leadership is now able to engage in the improvement of personnel's professional skills and selection of the best-trained specialists," he said.

Last year, 1,040 policemen from Chechnya underwent training at Russian Interior Ministry training centers, and 916 were trained at the local police school, Atsayev said.
