TSKHINVALI. Jan 13 (Interfax-AVN) - The Armed Forces of the self-proclaimed republic of South Ossetia continue being on alert due to ongoing political processes in Georgia, South Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity said on Tuesday.
"Due to the processes underway in Georgia, Tskhinvali has some concerns over possible escalation of revanchist moods. South Ossetia is closely following the developments," Kokoity told Interfax-Military News Agency.
The president said he had proposed the Georgian parliament "to make a political assessment" of the Georgian-Ossetian armed conflict of 1989-1992 and "recognize the genocide of Ossetians" in order to speed up settlement of the conflict's consequences.
"My last year's proposal to deploy in South Ossetia the Russian military that must be withdrawn from Georgia remains in force. This could be done to preserve the balance of power in the South Caucasus," Kokoity said.
"It is up to Russia to make a decision on this issue," he stressed.
South Ossetia's law-enforcement agencies were put on alert before the parliamentary elections in Georgia that were held on November 2.
