Congressman says U.S. should help Transcaucasia in European integration

TBILISI. Jan 15 (Interfax-AVN) - Time has come to scale up U.S. assistance to Georgia and other Transcaucasian nations in their European integration, Bruce P. Jackson, President of the Project of Democracy in Transition NGO and head of the U.S. committee on NATO, said on Thursday.

Now is the time to help Georgia and its neighbors by opening doors to Europe for this region, Jackson told reporters in Tbilisi.

According to him, the situation in Georgia and Transcaucasia in general will be among topics for discussion during his meetings in the European Union and NATO HQ in Brussels on Friday and Saturday.

The U.S. congressman arrived in Georgia on Sunday. He held consultations with Georgian leaders on European integration and NATO admission problems, as well as on cooperation between Washington and Tbilisi in the security sphere.
