CHISINAU. Jan 16 (Interfax-AVN) - Great Britain is ready to become a sponsor of the project aimed at destroying 2,000 tonnes of pesticides stockpiled in Moldova, a source in the Moldovan Defense Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.
An announcement to this effect was made at a meeting between Moldovan Defense Minister Viktor Gaichuk and British Ambassador Bernard Whiteside in Chisinau, the source said.
"The parties discussed disposal of about 2,000 tonnes of pesticides that are stockpiled in various districts of the country and posing a threat to the people and environment. The British diplomat confirmed his country's readiness to become a sponsor of the joint project that is being developed by the Moldovan Defense Ministry and NAMSA experts," he noted.
According to the source, the meeting addressed bilateral military cooperation between Chisinau and London. The parties expressed satisfaction with a new level of cooperation reached recently. Last year's opening of the Reserve Servicemen Retraining Center with the British Defense Ministry's assistance was a vivid example of progress in this sphere, they said.
Gaichuk and Whiteside exchanged opinions on interaction prospects related to the training of Moldovan military experts in British educational establishments. The minister expressed his gratitude to the ambassador for assistance in training dozens of National Army representatives in British higher educational establishments.
In conclusion of the meeting, Whiteside introduced Britain's new military attache Colonel Alan Beatte to Gaichuk.
