Russian defense minister to sign contracts in India

MOSCOW. Jan 19 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov left for India on Monday morning to sign a package of contracts for the supply of the Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier to New Delhi and a number of documents on military and military-technical cooperation.

Among the people accompanying Ivanov are Admiral Vladimir Kuroyedov (commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy), Andrei Belyaninov (director general of the Rosoboronexport company), Colonel General Anatoly Mazurkevich (head of the Defense Ministry's directorate for international military cooperation), and other officials, Interfax-Military News Agency has learned.

In the course of his visit (which is expected to last three days), Ivanov will discuss the prospects of Russian-Indian military and military-technical cooperation with Indian politicians and top military officials. He is expected to meet with Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, his Indian counterpart George Fernandes, etc.
