MOSCOW. Jan 19 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia has made over 350 commercial offers in military-technical cooperation with India, says a Defense Ministry press service report obtained by Interfax- Military News Agency on Monday.
"Military and military-technical cooperation between Russia and India is large-scale and dynamic. It is a genuine reflection of the bilateral strategic partnership," the report reads.
The largest project is an agreement on the aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov, which will be signed during an official visit of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov to India.
"Russia supplied two modern frigates to the Indian Navy in 2003, and a third ship will be supplied in the near future. The ships are unique in the amount of advanced armament systems," the press service said.
Russia is also supplying SU-30MKI fighters to the Indian Air Force.
"The project for the joint design and production of a multifunctional military cargo plane on the basis of the IL-214 is promising. The project involves the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the Ilyushin Design Bureau and the Irkut corporation," the press service said.
T-90S tanks are being supplied to India, which the report says are capable of combat in any weather and at night.
"Russia is ready to assist India in the modernization of tanks, planes, artillery systems and other types of armaments and materiel," the press service says.
As to research cooperation, the report mentions the BrahMos joint project that Russia and India are developing successfully.
"Regular tests of the cruise missile designed in the project's framework have been a success recently," it says.
"Military-technical cooperation between Russia and India, as well as Russian-Indian strategic partnership in general, does not pose a threat to other countries. On the contrary, it has an obvious positive and constructive nature and serves peace and security in Asia and on the entire planet," the press service says.
