MOSCOW. Jan 26 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili has said he wants to resolve the problem of Abkhazia in a peaceful way.
"We want a peaceful settlement with Abkhazia. We have spilt enough blood. There can be no more bloodshed," Saakashvili said in an interview with Russia's NTV television on Sunday evening.
At the same time, Saakashvili said he intends to work to make his country's armed forces stronger.
"I will work for our army to become stronger, so that it becomes prestigious to serve there. But this is the last argument in our talks with Abkhazia," he said.
"I would not want to have no alternative other than the use of the armed forces. Naturally, this is the worst nightmare scenario of all," Saakashvili said.
However, he added that "everyone should be aware that I am not going to tolerate Georgia's breakup."
