MOSCOW. Jan 26 (Interfax-AVN) - Rearmament and social army issues require higher rise in defense spending, Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee Viktor Zavarzin told Interfax- Military News Agency Monday.
"It will be a high priority for the State Duma defense committee to provide legislative support to solution of army's social problems and to rearmament. These problems cannot be solved without a high rise in defense spending," Zavarzin said.
"I am firm in my view that the national defense spending has to be higher," he emphasized.
As to the coming actions to committee, he said that first of all its members should be shown the ropes in the Duma on the whole and in their legislative domain.
Zavarzin also said that in the coming months the members of the committee would meet with the leadership of the Armed Forces, of separate armed services and branches.
"We have to develop a clear mechanism for our work. This should be done without delay but not in a hurry as well. Politics is a wrong place for speed marches," he added.
In early February, Zavarzin went on, various subcommittees will be formed.
"The subcommittees that were with the previous Duma might be rearranged in the light of new priorities of the Armed Forces," he said. He added that by this time each of the members would have an area of responsibility of his/her own.
