Russia to discuss Iraq debt issue in Paris Club - Putin

MOSCOW. Jan 26 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has confirmed Russia's readiness to discuss the problem of Iraq's debt within the Paris Club.

During a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State in Moscow on Monday, Putin said that negotiations with the Iraqi Governing Council had been conducted in Moscow.

"We agreed during those negotiations to discuss the Iraqi debt issue in the Paris Club," Putin said.

Putin also said Russia sees "the very fact of meeting with the Iraqi Governing Council as moral and political support of this council."

Speaking about the talks between Russia and the U.S. on Iraq, Putin said this discussion is still continuing.

"We, like you, believe that the UN should return to Iraq," he said.
