MOSCOW. Jan 28 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov met with his Spanish counterpart, Federico Trillo, in Moscow on Wednesday to discuss advancing cooperation between the two countries.
"We had no achievements to boast about in our bilateral relations in the military-technical and military areas until today. Today we outlined a specific program aimed at intensifying our cooperation in the military and military-technical areas and appointed people responsible for this program," Ivanov said.
"We held a sincere and trusting discussion on the situation in Afghanistan, Iraq and other hot spots, including the so-called Maghrib states in Northern Africa, since what is happening there and in Chechnya are directly linked," the Russian defense minister said.
He added that Spain currently chairs the UN Security Council Anti-Terrorism Committee.
"Spain's chairmanship has recently seen a number of successes, including ones that have made it possible to put certain persons on the UN list of international terrorists," Ivanov said.
"Like Russia, Spain has confronted concrete instances of international terrorism on its territory. It knows what it (terrorism - Interfax) means from its own experience," the defense minister said.
