TBILISI. Jan 29 (Interfax-AVN) - The Border Guard Service of the Russian Federal Security Service and the Georgian State Border Guard Department will exchange liaison officers on the Chechen, Ingush and Dagestani border sections in spring, Colonel Kornely Salia, chief of the Georgian department, said on Thursday.
"We maintain operational contact with Russian colleagues on the Chechen, Ingush and Dagestani sections of the Russian- Georgian border, but as problems may emerge after the snow thaws, we are planning to exchange liaison officers in spring," Salia told Interfax-Military News Agency.
Georgia has submitted a draft agreement on the issue to Russia, he added.
"The Georgian State Border Guard Department will soon work to comply with President Mikhail Saakashvili's Wednesday statement on the possibility of finding a flexible mechanism of joint patrolling of the Russian-Georgian Border," Salia noted.
According to him, constructive cooperation between Russian and Georgian border guards may expand considerably if accords to this effect are achieved on a higher level.
